Lori Grannis~EATING MISSOULA: Outlying restaurants worth drive            Friday, May 20, 2011

Last week, I highlighted some upcoming seasonal menu changes at several hot dining spots in Missoula. This week, it's outlying areas that are often overlooked and shouldn't be missed.

. . . Where's the Beef?

Some might say a 12-ounce steak is heavy as the seasons warm. To them I say, "Are you mad?" A season change never stopped me from being a card-carrying carnivore.

Not much changes seasonally at these places, but why mess with a good steak?

Bradley O's Steakhouse - Hamilton

Eight miles south of Hamilton, certified Angus beef comes steaming from the kitchen. One of the only places locally that serves Chateaubriand - the most tender cut of tenderloin - they also smother filet mignon with a classic béarnaise sauce, which is never a bad idea. Salmon, ribs, chicken also found here.

"It may be presumptuous to anoint any road trip the world's best, but if there is one I would be happy to take again and again (as I have), it is the loop anchored on the south by Grand Teton National Park and on the north by Glacier National Park.  Straddling Montana's northern and southern borders like bookends . . .

For dinner, enjoy a steak with a view of the Bitterroot mountain range at
